Bachelor of Architecture (5 Years)

Course Description

  • The B.Arch degree programme is of the duration of 5 academic years / 10 semesters inclusive of one semester of professional training.
  • The five year B.Arch degree programme is conducted in two stages. a. The first stage of the programme isthe first 3 academic years or 6 semesters of institutional academic studies. b. The second stage of the programme will be of 2 academic years/ 4 semesters including one semester of professional training during seventh semester.
  • A student is normally expected to complete the B.Arch. degree programme in 10 semesters but in any case in not more than 14 consecutive semesters from the time of commencement of the programme.
  • Registration of candidates under the Architects Act, 1972, which is a mandatory requirement for the practice of Architectural profession and teaching, is possible only after successful completion of both the stages.

Course Structure
The B.Arch degree programme will have a curriculum with syllabus consisting of theory courses, studio oriented courses and studio courses.

The course structure comprises of the following:

  • Core theory courses such as Building construction and materials, Vernacular Architecture, Visual representations, History of Architecture and Human settlements, Building Services, Site Planning and Analysis, Climatology, Climatic Design, Urban Communities, Theory of Architectural Design, Professional Practice and Ethics, Urban Design etc.
  • Studio courses such as Design Studio, Architectural Drawing, Art Studio Workshop, Computer Studio, Dissertation and Thesis.
  • Studio oriented courses such as Structures Studio and Construction Studios are offered.
  • Allied Core courses such as Applied Mathematics, Mechanics of Structures and Building Structures are offered.
  • Electives offered by the Department, Faculty and the Institute related to the programme of study.
  • Electives to be chosen from the group of courses offered, which can be chosen by any student under any programme.
  • Compulsory rural study in the third semester and Educational Tour in the seventh semester after the Professional Training.
  • Professional training in seventh semester for exposure to Architectural professional practice including office procedures.
  • Dissertation and Pre thesis during ninth semester and thesis work in the tenth semester respectively.

  • Architecture finds a balance between art and technology and enables the architect to both be a sensuous artist and a sensible technocrat built in one.
  • Sensitive architecture transcends the boundary of mere aesthetics and plays a vital role in addressing climate change, infrastructure, city building, public health, safety, security and even social inclusion. Thus to groom the future architects have a crucial role in mitigating societal troubles and will hold a critical emplacement in nation building
How to apply

Eligible candidates for this course should fulfill the following criteria:
Passed the 10+2 examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a total aggregate of 50% (or) Passed the 10+3 diploma examination (with Mathematics as compulsory subject) with at least 50% marks as aggregate.
A pass in NATA/JEE 2 examination
Main Paper II - Arch & Planning
Chettinad Entrance Aptitude Test (C.E.A.T.) score
Personal interview assessment

    Candidates will be called for counselling in the order of merit which will be based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination. The prescribed fee and the following original documents with one set of photocopies shall be produced at the time of counselling for admission.

  • NATA score card / JEE score car
  • Conduct Certificate from the last institution
  • Transfer Certificate from the last institution
  • Proof of date of birth (10thmark sheet)
  • Community Certificate
  • Migration Certificate(CBSE/ICSE/Other Board/State /Open Schooling)
  • Certificate for extracurricular activities (if any)
  • 3 passport size photographs
