Medical Biotechnology is the skilled application of living systems to invent pharmaceutical and diagnostic products for the detection, prevention and treatment of diseases. It is fast emerging as the century's most dynamic force which can reshape virtually every other industry it intersects and can redefine our lives. From healthcare to agriculture, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing processes, from drug discovery to nanotechnology, biotechnology is creating platform for new products and markets on many fronts. As the mysteries of human, microbial and plant systems are unravelled every day, biotechnology promises to play an essential role in shaping the future of drug discovery, drug manufacture, drug delivery, diagnostic methodology, stem cell based therapeutics, clinical trials and to a great extant the major lifestyle of humans. This course will cover a number of topics central to biotechnology such as recombinant DNA technology, molecular and chemical technologies, DNA and protein isolation and assay, molecular diagnostic techniques, genetic and molecular identification of therapeutic targets, development of therapeutics, therapeutic delivery systems, and regulatory issues. The institute being attached with the state of the art Chettinad Hospital, students get a first hand experience to the medical implications of their study.

Eligibility
A Bachelor's degree in any branch of Life Sciences / Technology (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, Agriculture or equivalent) or Health / Medical Sciences (Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Veterinary or equivalent) from a recognized Indian or Foreign University. Students with B. Sc. degree in Physical and Chemical Sciences, are also eligible to apply if biology is taken as one of the subjects at +2 level.
