Scientific and technological inventions have mandated a shift in our life style necessitating a balanced approach to family commitments and work life. As a result of this juggling act we are constantly challenged with several problems that require emotional balance and logical reasoning to arrive at solutions that best fits our needs. The demand imposed by the challenges can sometime be overwhelming leading to communication breakdown often resulting in conflicts. This tends to assume much longer proportions in a techno-industrial age.

Professional counselling service has become more significantly predominant than in the past providing an opportunity to efficiently handle personal/ professional issues. It helps us to modify our way of thinking leading to a better self-management. More importantly, professional counselors assist in analyzing various problems and provide insight to negative attitude and belief through various counselling/ therapeutic techniques. The three year B.Sc. Counselling Psychology program aims to provide training for a new generation to arm them with the skills needed for this new era, and to prepare students for careers in different specialty areas in Counselling Psychology. Specialization in Counseling Psychology equips the students with knowledge, imparts right attitudes and trains them in skills that are necessary for assessing the problems of individuals and groups and to seek problems of the same through counselling. This program focuses on skill development coupled with scientific aptitude in Counseling Psychology as applied to the various specialty areas of Counseling Psychology.

The course is an innovative and interdisciplinary program. The program comprises of theory, psychological testing and field work. The department has qualified and experienced faculty who guide the students through with their expertise. We use an innovative learning programme where in we apply new approaches to teaching & learning methods within and outside classrooms with a special focus on hands on experience at inter-disciplinary departments related to counselling psychology, like Departments of Psychiatry, Community Medicine, Fertility & Reproductive Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology and Neurology. Since Chettinad Academy of Research and Education is attached to Medical College & Hospital set up, our students are provided placement facilities to get hands on experience to counsel persons with physical disorders associated with emotional problems due to chronic renal failure, couples with sexual problems, infertility, etc.

We use a variety of evidence- based therapeutic strategies and teach students to have particular expertise in tailoring these to meet the specific & varying needs of clients.

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate desiring to join the program leading to the degree B.Sc. (Counselling Psychology) should have passed HSC/CBSE/ISC or equivalent examination. Preference will be given to students who took science group.

Scope of the program: The UG degree will be an excellent preparation for a PG course in the different specialty areas of Counselling Psychology or in related fields such as Criminology, Human Resource Management, Social work and so on.

Admission will be open for both male and female candidates.
