Medicine of 21st century is looking at nanotechnology as the ideal solution for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. Of the many applications of nanotechnology to the medical sector, drug delivery, imaging agents and bionanosensors for diagnosis, biomedical devices and medical implants have created many new jobs. But industry-ready workforce need good-hands on training. The three year B.Sc Bionanotechnology course aims to provide training for a new generation to arm them with the skills needed for this new era, and to prepare students for careers in health care industry, pharmaceutical industry, environment industry and food industry.
The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education offers a 3 year Bachelors degree program in Medical Bionanotechnology with focus on skill development coupled with scientific aptitude in nanotechnology as applied to the development of nano enabled drug delivery vehicles, nanobiosensors, biomedical imaging contrast agents, targeted drug delivery and nanomedicine. The course was introduced in the year 2013 with students enrolled from 2014 onwards in full strength. The course was introduced under UGC innovative programme and offers the subjects which are interdisciplinary. Upon successful completion of the program, students will gain:
- Advanced knowledge in the areas of nanotechnology, drug delivery, sensors, etc.
- Understanding of the use and application of relevant analytical techniques within the field of characterisation of nanoparticle and nanostructures.
- Training with the planning, execution and communication skills necessary to successfully conduct research and development in medical bionanotechnology.
- Enhanced skills in effective interpersonal and professional communication, both oral and written.
- Increased awareness of professional, ethical and social responsibilities with relationship to medical bionanotechnology.
- Orientation for research skill through a highly innovative project as a part of the curriculum which may lead to scientific publications and patent filing.
